You’ll struggle to find a more cross-functional discipline than data governance.

Part of this is because I think it’s become too specialised (see The Beginning and The End of Information Management). But the other problem is it’s possible to both view your organisation as the sum of its information flows and optimise the performance of an organisation by optimising those information flows.

Also, politics.

To succeed in data governance you have to take a cross-functional approach. I know all professional disciplines say this but here is an attempt to expand on what that might actually mean.
